Slice of Life #3

I teach yoga to a group of mostly teachers and people who work within the school system 2 times a week. It is always amazing to me that there are days when I am driving across town thinking that I would rather be going home because the school day has been rough or I am just tired. But when I get there, they are all so excited to be there and it makes me happy and feeling blessed to be in their prescence. I make them stretchy bendy and kick their butts! They often call me “Jillian” referring to Jillian Michaels of Biggest Loser fame. During class there is always time for laughter. There is a style of yoga that is called Laughter Yoga and one of my students had given me an article about it a couple weeks ago. In class, you force yourself to laugh which is supposed to make you feel better and release tension.  The same woman last night said we should try it so to be funny some of us started to forceably laugh….I cracked myself up and a few others as well. It was a good release and then we got back to poses!

Class always begins with the same few stretches and always ends with savasana and also ends with everyone feeling better than when we began!

  1. Ahhh yoga! We have an instructor come to our school every Thursday but I haven’t been able to make it to a single class yet! I know how much it benefits me and how great I feel afterward, but I also have a 30 minute drive home and can’t imagine staying at school any longer than I have to. I’ve been thinking of signing up for a class elsewhere…

  2. I think those routines are just we in the world of education need. I haven’t done yoga in awhile but I have other routines that help me get through those more chaotic days at work.

  3. My Pilates instructor kicks my butt, but yet I go back and keep paying her for the “torture.” 🙂

  5. That sounds like fun! I would love “laughter yoga”. I love the feeling I get in my body after a good yoga stretch.

  6. I have not participated in a yoga class in years. You made me want to go find one. It sounds like your group has a great time.

  7. The same holds true with our writing. Some days we just don’t want to get started…but once we do and start exercising the muscle between our ears beautiful things happen. Good luck with the Slice of Life contest
